October 16 - December 18
Class Description

Gold is special. In this class you will gain a better understanding of how and why this metal is special. Gold has properties that allow it to be pushed and pulled into beautiful varieties of color and shape. It has expressive qualities that can be exciting and surprising.

This course will use gold and silver to bring out design elements and embellish work with less material investment. Gold alloys are of your choosing, and metals can be mixed. We will be soldering, fusing, forging, rolling, piercing, pinning and more to build up surfaces and create jewelry elements. The techniques we cover in this course will lay a foundation for creating any type of jewelry that is fabricated from sheet and wire, including tube making. We will also work with patination techniques to develop surface enhancements.

Alloying will be demonstrated and discussed. If you have scrap gold, old gold, or new, bring it! The more bits and pieces you have to work with the better.

This course is designed for students with previous goldsmithing experience. It is important to already have a working knowledge of gold fabrication techniques.
