June 24 & 25
Class Description

Whatever your favorite beverage is to imbibe, it will taste better when you drink it from a handmade cup, and best when you have made that cup yourself. In this two day workshop Brian & Erin will help you make a cup, or two, from sheet metal and wire. Pattern making, fabrication, seaming, forming, and forging techniques will be taught, and can be used to create the vessel of your design. We will be using traditional approaches to holloware, and will demonstrate footing the vessel, though your design may vary. This workshop will open with an overview of drinkware, with historical and contemporary references.

Object making is a great place for anyone new to metalsmithing to start. It is also a great way for jewelers unfamiliar with holloware techniques to increase their skill set. Forming on a larger scale increases the understanding of metal fabrication for jewelry. If you have wanted to really move some metal and get to know the stakes, hammers, and other approaches to making, now is your chance.
