Raïssa Bump studied jewelry at Rhode Island School of Design and Alchmia School of Contemporary Jewelry under Giampaolo Babetto. She has been exhibiting her jewelry for over ten years and is skilled at making both intricate one-of-a-kind pieces and beautiful edition collections–all of which speak to her interest in wearable arts, textiles & textile techniques and slow & methodical handwork. Raïssa is a keen observer of her environment, very curious and enjoys adventure–her jewelry is a reflection of this. She collages together her observations into pieces that are bold from a distance, yet draw you in, ask you to look closer and notice subtle details or how light coruscates across surfaces.
In 2008 Raïssa was starting to notice pain in her hands from repetitive motions and posture. She decided to take an intensive yoga teacher training with Ana Forrest, a pioneer in yoga that among other things addresses the habits and stresses of today’s lifestyle physical ailments. Since her initial training Raïssa has studied more and integrated her findings into her creative lifestyle and physically demanding career. In 2013 Raïssa realized that her creative community would benefit from adding simple stretches to their professional practices. She developed workshops and started teaching these stretches to the ‘making’ community she is a part of.
