Preston Jones – Pulque Pitcher, 2017

Makers, wearers, collectors, and the curious! We are excited to announce a collaboration between BKMW, The Jewelry Library, and silversmith Preston Jones in support of Open Book: Dreaming in Silver. We will examine more closely the process of repoussé and chasing, used extensively by the Mixtec in the pre-Columbian era, as well as by 20th century Mexican silversmiths, such a as Matilde Poulat, whose early works are on view at The Jewelry Library.

Preston Jones will demonstrate repoussé and chasing in the studio at Brooklyn Metal Works. Jones’ Pulque Pitcher was part of New York Silver, Then and Now, a recent exhibition at the Museum of the City of New York. Jones will talk about his work, demonstrate techniques and tools, and share examples of repoussé and chasing. Pieces of 1930’s Mexican repoussé from The Jewelry Library will also be on view.
