Please join us for an evening lecture with Swedish jeweler Karin Johansson.  Karin will be discussing her new body of work NEW PLACES – Abstractions of a City.  This work will be exhibited in October at Jewelers Werk in Washington D.C.  Karin will also be talking about past projects such as “The Butterfly Collection” and its accompanying book, as well as giving insight into her teaching practice at the University of Gothenburg, School of Design and Crafts.

Helen Britton & David Bielander | Artist Talk

Please join us on Saturday August 18th for a day with contemporary jewelers Helen Britton and David Bielander.

Both artists will give individual presentations on their work in the morning and conversations with the artists will follow.  In the afternoon Helen Britton will be giving a special demonstration on the blanking tools and techniques she utilizes in her practice while discussing her approach to making.  Samples of her work will be on hand.

Each demonstration attendee is encouraged to bring a material of interest to discuss with Helen ways of integrating it into their work along with design possibilities.

11am-1pm  Artist talks
$10 public/$5 members

2-5pm  Demonstration & material discussions
$30 public/$25 members

The morning and afternoon events may be attended separately.  If you would like to come to one or both of the activities please RSVP by emailing info@bkmetalworks.com with your preferences.   Payment may be made the day of the event.

Brooklyn Creates

BROOKLYN CREATES is a unique event designed by Brooklyn Glass and Brooklyn Metal Works in collaboration with Armory Arts Weekand Heller Gallery. Enjoy an evening of design, food, and an aesthetic exploration of the table. Brooklyn makers’ showcase farm to table food and eclectic homemade brews served from hand crafted glass and metal tableware. Sponsored by Smorgasburg the Brooklyn Flea Food Market’s Landhaus and the city’s first do-it-yourself brewery, Bitter & Esters.

BROOKLYN GLASS assists the creative community by providing a studio environment for students, aspiring artists, and professionals working with glass. They are an advocate of the creative process, form, and innovative ideas. Brooklyn Glass enriches the cultural landscape and engages a vast creative community within the five boroughs of New York City.

BROOKLYN METAL WORKS is a metal art studio that offers facilities  for the development of work in the metalsmithing field, as well as offering concept based classes and gallery space to promote artists, designers and makers. This collaborative setting is designed to foster exploration, encourage experimentation, and strengthen the knowledge base of all involved.

BROOKLYN CREATES is in collaboration with Armory Arts Week New York and is part of a day of Design, Glass and Metal. Visit The Museum of Art & Design on March 9th for a film screening of the Toledo Workshop Revisited from 3-5pm followed by an opening reception at Heller Gallery for Amber Cowan’s exhibition Reconstructions & featured work by Kim Harty & Matthew Szosz.  At Brooklyn Metal Works, Jaydan Moore’s exhibition of new work will be on view in the gallery from 11am-6pm.  This day of Design, Glass and Metal will conclude with BROOKLYN CREATES at  Brooklyn Glass from 7-9pm.
