Brian Weissman

 

Brian Weissman is the Co-Founder of Brooklyn Metal Works - a co-working metalsmithing studio, education lab, tool shop and exhibition space. In 2019 he Co-Founded Specific Gravity, a jewelry and objects retail store that supports the artist community of Brooklyn Metal Works.

Brian has dedicated a large part of his life designing and building safe and sustainable working studios. He consults on environmental, health, safety, sustainability and studio practices. Many of these methods and systems have been implemented at BKMW, where Brian continues to research evolving technologies and historical practices while advocating for higher standards both in and out of the metals field. 

Brian also directs the gallery component at Brooklyn Metal Works which has hosted numerous solo, group, collaborative, guest curated and juried group shows. He regularly participates as a juror for various organizations exhibitions. Most recently he was on the selection committee for 45 Stories in Jewelry at the Museum of Arts and Design. 

Brian is also a practicing artist and metalsmith with works in the public and private collections, some of which include The Jewish Museum in New York City and The MFA Boston. He has exhibited his artwork widely including The City of the Museum of New York and the Schoonhoven Silver Award exhibition in the Netherlands.

Brian has shared his metalsmithing expertise at a number of schools along the East Coast including - SUNY New Paltz, University of the Arts in Philadelphia, 92Y in NYC, The Fashion Institute of Technology, Parsons School of Design and most importantly at Brooklyn Metal Works.
