Class Description

Learn how to distinguish genuine, synthetic and imitation stones in this one-day course. Work with professional tools and equipment including microscopes and sample gemstones to accurately see and learn how to asses gemstones. Discussion topics will cover the basics of gemological terminology, treatments and disclosure codes, understanding which gemstones are best used in particular pieces of jewelry, and more. This hands-on training provides the opportunity to test gemstones while learning to work with gem lab equipment. While this course is designed for professional jewelers, it is also open to anyone interested in learning more gemstones. Class size is limited to 8 students.

Students are asked to bring a pair of gem tweezers, a 10x triplet loupe, a lint free cloth, and a few personal stones that they may have questions about identifying.
