Class Description

Hand rendering jewelry on paper is a time honored technique that can improve your ideation process and ability to communicate your designs. Build confidence in your drawing skills in this 8 session jewelry rendering course. Give yourself and your clients a clear understanding of your design concepts with quick sketches and fully realized gouache paintings.

Students will be taught how to draw faceted gemstones, cabochons, and pearls to incorporate into their jewelry designs. Pencil sketches are the starting point for the gouache painting process where students will learn how to work with specific brushes and paint color palettes for metals and gems. The class will address the different plan views of jewelry pieces using a compass, rulers, protractors, templates, and other tools.

The course will begin with drawing three basic perspectives of rings and then mixing paints for yellow and white metal pallets to render their designs in gouache.  Three quarter views will be covered if time permits. Students will have the opportunity to to fully develop their ring designs including gemstone painting techniques. Pendants and earrings will be covered depending on the speed of the class.

This course requires a time commitment outside of class in order to develop your skills in pace with the syllabus. No prior drawing experience is necessary, only an interest to deepen your knowledge and practice new techniques.

Class size 4 – 12 students. Proof of Covid-19 vaccination required. Masks are required to be worn for all studio coursework.
