Class Description

Learn about the specialized skill of mountmaking for the display of objects. Cover the basics of designing and fabricating a secure mount for an object that you bring to class. Methods of fabrications will include forming and fitting brass rod and wire, soldering and torchwork, cold connections, and friction fit elements. Specific materials for professional mountmaking like padding and painting will be demonstrated and included in the coursework.

Additional topics for discussion include working in a museum environment where collection care and materials are paramount.
