Metal Forming | Jewelry Focus

Class Description

Taught by Erin S. Daily

8 week course (meets once a week for 3 hours)

Create lightweight volumes using sheet metal forming techniques for jewelry. Through bending, hammering, dapping, and rolling, you will stretch and form metal and discover how it behaves. Scoring and bending using a separating disc can give your forms a crisp structure that is quick to execute. Strategic fold forming approaches can yield elegant shapes with minimal hammerwork. Create hollow rings without excessive soldering. Explore how small variations in patterning can affect the resulting hollow forms. All of these techniques can be used for hard crisp angles or soft flowing surfaces.

Three projects will be introduced - a pair of earrings using scoring and bending techniques, a bracelet using precise fold forming techniques, and a hollow ring using forming and dapping techniques.

Students must be comfortable with basic jewelry fabrication skills, including soldering and torch work. Our Welcome to Jewelry Class and Jewelry 2 (or a comparable class) are recommended .

Class size 4-12 students.

There is a supply kit available for purchase through our Tool Shop. Materials will be available for pick up during your first class.

Early Bird pricing discount will be in affect until October 11th, when the course will rise to $580. All students receive a 50% discount on hourly bench rentals throughout the duration of their course.
